Washington, D.C. – Congressman Faleomavaega today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will award $25,274,054.09 in additional federal funding to the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) to replace the Satala Power Plant which was severely damaged by the earthquake, tsunami, and flooding disaster of September 2009.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Faleomavaega today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released the increased total funding available to American Samoa in FY 2014 under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, commonly known as LIHEAP. In a press release last November, Faleomavaega announced HHS’ decision to raise the Territories’ share of funding from 0.135 percent to 0.5 percent, the maximum level allowed under federal law.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that the House has approved H.R. 3547, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2014 by a recorded vote of 359-67.  The bill now goes to the Senate for a vote.  
 
“I am pleased to report that the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 includes over $32.7 million for American Samoa,” Faleomavaega reported.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has increased the Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) grant.  Thanks to the persistent efforts and teamwork of the Territorial Delegates, including Faleomavaega, Congresswoman Bordallo (Guam), Congresswoman Christensen (U.S. Virgin Islands), Congressman Pierluisi (Puerto Rico), and Congressman Sablan (Northern Marianas Islands), HHS will almost quadruple the amount of LIHEAP funding to the Territories.

Congressman Faleomavaega today testified before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources who held a hearing on S. 1237, the Omnibus Territories Act of 2013.
 
The Committee also considered S. 1268, a bill that would approve an agreement between the U.S. and the Republic of Palau.  
 
The hearing was led by Chairman Ron Wyden of Oregon and Ranking Member Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
